Chapter 257 Story 257: Shadows of the Abyss
Damien and Mira traveled through an eerie forest, following the map's clues toward the Sorrow King's lair. The trees loomed like twisted sentinels, branches reaching out as if to snatch them. The air was thick, almost suffocating, each step forward pulling them deeper into the shadowed realm.
"Are you sure this is the right way?" Mira asked, glancing nervously at the dark canopy above.
"According to the map, we're close," Damien replied, scanning the surroundings. "But something feels... off."
Ahead, they noticed a faint, ghostly blue light hovering above the ground. It moved slowly, weaving between the trees, as if inviting them to follow. Mira hesitated, clutching her amulet. "This could be a trap."
Damien gave a nod. "It's likely, but we don't have any other leads. Stay sharp."
They followed the light deeper into the forest until they reached a clearing dominated by a dark, still pond. The water was ink-black, its surface disturbingly calm. Above it, a massive stone statue of a twisted face leered at them, the features grotesque and almost alive. Suddenly, the blue light vanished, leaving them in silence.
Damien wiped his brow and gave a nod. "Whatever's down there, it's closer to the Sorrow King."
As they descended into the depths, the air grew colder, and the walls dripped with an unnatural slime. The path led to a vast underground chamber, lit by strange, green flames that flickered along the walls. At the center of the chamber stood a massive door, covered in ancient symbols and pulsing with dark energy.
Damien felt a chill run down his spine. This was it—the threshold to the Sorrow King's lair.
"Are you ready?" he asked Mira, his voice echoing in the stillness.
Mira took his hand, her grip firm. "Together."
