Chapter 314 Story 314: Dance of Survival
The massive creature charged with terrifying speed, each thunderous step shaking the ground beneath Zara's feet. Its spines glinted in the dim light filtering through the trees, and its glowing red eyes burned with malevolent intent. Zara inhaled deeply, centering herself, her twin blades glinting as she prepared to meet the monstrous foe.
"Mia, Andre, flank left! Callum, cover fire on my signal!" Zara's voice rang out clear and commanding, snapping the team out of their terror.
The beast lunged, swiping its colossal arm toward Zara. She dove to the side, narrowly avoiding the blow that shattered a nearby tree trunk into splinters. Rolling to her feet, Zara slashed at its leg, her blades slicing deep into its tough, leathery hide. The creature roared in pain, but its momentum barely slowed.@@@@
"Callum, now!" Zara shouted.
Callum's rifle cracked repeatedly, each shot finding its mark on the creature's exposed joints. The bullets didn't bring it down but succeeded in drawing its attention away from Zara. The beast turned toward Callum, giving Mia and Andre the opening they needed.
Mia darted forward with a speed that belied her petite frame, her combat knife finding purchase in the beast's side. Andre followed, swinging his axe in a wide arc that landed a crushing blow to its other leg. The creature roared again, its massive body lurching as it tried to swat them away.
Andre and Mia launched a coordinated attack, striking at its legs to destabilize it. Callum fired a carefully aimed shot that struck the creature's exposed spine, sending it reeling. Zara took advantage of the opening, driving her blade deeper with a final, ferocious twist.
With an earth-shaking crash, the creature collapsed, its body shuddering before falling still. Zara rolled free, her breaths ragged as she rose to her feet.
The forest fell eerily silent once more.

"Is it over?" Mia asked, her voice trembling.
Zara wiped the black ichor from her face, her expression grim. "For now. But something sent that thing after us. We need to find out what."
The team exchanged uneasy glances, the weight of her words settling over them like a shadow.
