Chapter 187 Dark pact

Chapter 187 Dark pact

"Why do you have to get involved?" Max asked cautiously. "Think about it—if you know about this, then what about the powerful people in the city? They must know too, and yet they're not doing anything. That means they're all in on this." He held Leon's hand firmly, trying to stop him.

Leon frowned and pulled his hand away. "But the people being sacrificed are like us—orphans, the helpless. How can we just ignore them?"

Max shook his head. "You're just Tier III, and even at the Initial stages of it. What can you even do?"

Leon sighed and leaned back in his chair. "Yeah... what can I even do?"

After a moment of silence, he suddenly asked, "What about the Celestial Organization?" The Celestial Organization was like the police force of this new Earth, tasked with maintaining order and justice.

Max shrugged. "They left this city a while ago."

"What?" Leon exclaimed. "But why?"

"There's only a small branch left here, and it's run by just one guy. Nobody knows why they left, but since there hasn't been much crime, people assumed the city was safe. But after hearing this... I guess sending them away was part of the plan to protect the Ability Crystal trade," Max explained.

Leon nodded slowly, piecing things together. "And the nearest city with a proper Celestial Organization branch—a fully functioning one?"

Max sighed. "The closest one is over 1,000 miles away. If you're thinking of getting them here, forget it."

"Just leave it, Leon. Go back to focusing on the tournament. That's the only thing we can do," Max pleaded. Then, almost as if giving up, he added, "Even the Director knows about this."

"The Director knows about this?" Leon asked, his voice tense.

Max nodded. "Yeah, he knew. After all, many children who returned to the city went missing soon after."

Leon unsummoned the assassins and started thinking about what kind of entity could give him an insane amount of mana. After making his decision, he began the summoning process, determined to push his limits even further.

Leon focused, his mind sharpening as he chanted the incantation for Dark Pact Summoning. The air around him grew heavy, a dark energy swirling at his fingertips as he reached beyond the physical world to call upon something truly powerful.

"If I want enough mana to sustain prolonged combat... I need a creature known for its vast reserves."

He searched through his mental archive of creatures and beings he had encountered in the Alchemy Academy Dungeon. After a moment, he found the perfect target.

"The Abyssal Mana Leech King."

A monstrous entity from ancient records—an abomination capable of absorbing, storing, and redistributing mana at an extreme rate. It was said to be a nightmare for mages, capable of draining entire battlefields of magic and using it as its own.

As the summoning circle expanded beneath him, the temperature dropped. A deep, guttural growl echoed through the room. The shadows twisted violently, forming into a grotesque, writhing shape.

Then, with a final pulse of magic, the Abyssal Mana Leech King manifested.

It was a terrifying sight—its elongated, inky-black form pulsed like a heart, covered in eerie glowing veins of blue mana. Dozens of small, piercing eyes lined its featureless head, while rows of fang-like tendrils slithered around its mouth. Its presence alone sent waves of pressure crashing through the room.

The creature hissed, its voice echoing with an unnatural resonance.

"Master, why did you call me?" All of its eyes focused on Leon, who quickly glanced at his Mana Bar, realizing he had less than a minute to form his Dark Pact before his mana ran out.

Leon met the leech's countless, eerie eyes and spoke firmly, "Form a pact with me."
