Chapter 619 The Peace Treaty
Chapter 619 The Peace Treaty
Twenty-four hours before Duke Grant and his army marched on the Myriad Castle, Mark and the council members had a meeting concerning the coming battle, and after Mark told them his plans to meet with Duke Grant, things immediately went south.
"My lord, this is madness! We cannot have a reasonable conversation with these monsters! Trying to do something like this is playing right into their hands! These Angels have been the source of pain for us for years! If we make them think that we are weak, then they will try to kill even more of our people!"
Riger spoke up loudly and gesticulated erratically as he tried to make Mark change his mind about the plans for tomorrow. The members of the council, as well as Arit, were standing around the council meeting room and looking at Mark. They had only just heard Mark's plan to meet with the Duke recently and were still trying to digest it.
Mark's idea to use the captured Angels as a barricade preventing the Angels from advancing toward the castle was a brilliant one, and they had all agreed to it without a second thought since they knew that it would help increase their defenses. But now Mark was saying that he wanted to sit down with Duke Grant and 'talk'? What the fuck was he going on about!?
The council members couldn't fully understand what Mark was trying to do here, and they were obviously not happy about it. The only people who seemed calm in the situation were Mark, Arit, and Hunn. Hunn was just watching from the side with a contemplative look in his eyes. He had followed Mark the closest out of all the council members, so he knew better than anyone that Mark would not do something that would lead to the demons losing an important advantage. Right now, Hunn was silent as he waited for Mark to finish explaining the reasoning behind his decision.
Mark ignored all the questions and stares from those around him as he finally finished writing something out on a piece of paper. Once Mark was done with it, he sat back in the head seat and looked at all of them with an intense gaze before he finally spoke.
"I want us to sign a peace treaty with the Angels."
Everywhere was silent for a few seconds before almost all the council members erupted in protest and anger as their minds caught up to what Mark just said! A peace treaty!? Had he gone mad!? After everything that they had been through with the Angels, does he think that they would accept anything other than the death of every Angel at this point?
"My Lord, this is madness! We can't do this!"
"Signing a peace treaty with those birds would be the same as accepting our loss! It cannot happen!
"Please reconsider the consequences! We cannot agree to this!"
Mark weathered the barrage of yells and protests calmly as he waited for the council members to finally get all of their anger out of their system. Mark knew that they would be angry and he wouldn't say that he didn't understand. They'd been at war with these Angels for a hundred years, so hearing some new guy who hadn't even fought with them for up to a month telling them that they should sign a peace treaty with their enemy was obviously not ideal. But it was necessary. This was the only way this war would end, and Mark could leave this game, and Mark was not going to let any of these fuckers ruin his chances of winning this game.
Out of all the members of the council present, the only person who didn't seem surprised by Mark's sudden news was Hunn. Hunn closed his eyes and sighed to the side as he finally understood everything.
"Say that again, you dog!"
Hunn pulled his battle axe from behind him and Riger's nails extended as he sneered at Hunn angrily.
"I said you are all cowards! How dare you try to make us surrender to the Angels!? How dare you even think about it!? They began this war, and we will end it! We are not going to stop until all the Angels are dead!"
"Of course, a fucking werewolf wouldn't have the intelligence to understand what I said! We said we would sign for peace, not surrender!"

"They are the same thing, bastard!"
"That's enough!"
Mark's aura flared to life in the room and quieted everybody into silence before things could get out of control. Riger and Hunn glared at each other for a moment before they both returned to their seats, and Mark scratched his chin calmly and spoke up.
"I made this announcement now because I did not want the demons to be divided in front of the enemy. I am going to be meeting with Duke Grant, and when I get there, I will make my demands. Those who do not agree with my plan can take the boats and leave back to the demon continent. But as far as this war is concerned, we are striving for peace from now on. I'll leave you all to talk about it, but I expect everyone to be ready for the battle tomorrow. You're dismissed."
Mark waved them away and the council members all bowed and left the council room while muttering in hushed whispers to each other. Mark turned to Arit and she gave him a comforting smile and nodded. Arit also knew that this would cause some of the demons to turn against Mark, but Mark was doing the right thing, and she would stand by him no matter what.
"My Lord."
