The Animagus: From Hunter to Monster

Chapter 72 Freedom!!!

Chapter 72 Freedom!!!

He woke up, jolted upright, breathing heavily.

He was back in the hospital room.

His body was covered in sweat. His hands trembled. His heart was hammering against his ribs.

If only he hadn't completed the raid. What will become of his body? He thought.

The system's voice echoed in his ears, with the appearance of the screen.

[Alternative Quest Completed: Survival Time – 6 Hours.]

[Quest Reward: None.]

Buji clenched his fists.

"Son of a—" He cut himself off, exhaling sharply.

He had barely survived.

And the worst part?

The system didn't even give him a damn reward for it. Even thought it was not a mandatory quest, it was quite optional.

Or, he's mistaken. The fact that the system had asked him to make a choice meant it was mandatory to go for either of the quests. He regretted not choosing the former.

Exhausted, he laid back down, staring at the ceiling.

One thing was certain.

He would never be in such a situation again, by then, it would have been cupcakes for him to handle. Yet, another thing was certain.

The higher he goes, the harder it becomes.

He sighed upon the realization, and shifted his eyes to the ground where the paper Kira had given him lay, and stretched his hand to picked it up.

As he picked it up, he saw that it wasn't just a paper. It was more like an informative slip.

The paper drew his attention the more. He saw the title, and thought, what could it be about?

Then, the first line of the content made him more curious.

It read:

"It happened twelve years ago—"

That was when he was five years old.

That was when the incident about his father's death took place. The day he was branded an orphan.

And that was the day his life started being difficult for him.

He decided to read through the paper to know what it was that was contained in it, and he saw the caption.

"Why he had to be killed!"

His eyes widened at the sight of the caption. So far, what he read pointed at the facts behind the death of his father, and everything were all centered on the location the incident had happened.

It only meant that the Hunter's association were actually the Masterminds of his father's death. And everything was planned by the higher ups.

'Mr. Zin, Emra's father...' his thoughts shouted to him.

'Then, why did he have to rush at adopting me while I was still at the orphanage.'

He was done with that school. But not done with their raid missions anyway. He was still going to show up once he is invited for show.

For school, they can have his things. After all, nothing was left for him there except his bags and a few casuals. He could easily buy new ones now.

The only importance he might seem to lose is the knowledge he would have gotten. Plus, new friends.

"Braah... New friends?"

That was an impossibility according to Buji. After all, they were surely going to turn against him on a good day, especially now he has turned on the Monster being in him.

For knowledge, he could amass it on his own, with the help of this system.

Resources? He was earning enough through system quests and was never planning to turn down any Hunter raids invitation.

His next would-be step at the moment was clear—find an apartment.

And once he succeeds in doing so, once he had a home of his own, he could begin his real mission.

The mission to get stronger enough for the system to finally promote him to that last Monster Class.

The reason to use this mission to his advantage, and exterminate every last one of those that had equally hunted him down.

They hunted him because they hunted his father.

But, he wasn't going to get all these done by just standing by. He has to leave.

To Buji, he was finally going to leave this room that smelled of antiseptic.

"Blluu.."

And with a deep breath, he ran a hand through his messy hair and stepped out of the room.

The clinic was quiet as he walked down the hallway. Most of the student patients were either asleep or lost in their own worlds. Or, some might be getting medications.

No one paid him any attention as he walked down the white corridors of the clinic. Those awake probably got better things to do other than care.

Until he reached the exit.

And then, paused.

A thought struck him for the second time.

Kira!

What would she think once she found out he was no longer in school?

Would she be worried? Or, would she even care?

A flicker of doubt passed through his mind, but he quickly shoved it aside.

It was his choice anyway. His belonging to choose.

No one—not Ki Instructor Hay, not even Kira—was going to change his mind.

If Kira wanted to know where he went, she'd have to find him herself. He shrugged and stepped outside.

The cold evening air hit his face like a refreshing slap. Blazing through him, leaving his hair to jingle in air.

He took a deep breath as if inhaling the scent of the city. The distant hum of vehicles, the chatter of people, the faint scent of grilled food from nearby stalls—it was all so different from the suffocating walls of the academy.

He spread his hands and swirled it in rotary motion, before exclaiming.

"Freedom!!!"
