The Animagus: From Hunter to Monster

Chapter 74 Doing the Paperworks

Chapter 74 Doing the Paperworks

Buji woke up the next morning to the soft hum of the city outside his new apartment. The rays of the sunlight filtered through the thin curtains hung by his window side, casting a warm glow across the room. He stretched lazily, feeling unfamiliarly comfortable to the bed beneath him.

"It's been a while."

For the first time in a long while, he felt comfortable. He felt this sense of accomplishment in him. He had his own space now, a place where he could breathe freely without the weight of prying eyes, or the words from different horse's mouth.

He sat up from the bed, rubbing off the sleep from his eyes, and took a glance around his room. The apartment still felt foreign, but it was his.

He bought it with his hard earned money, so...

He had spent HUN180,000 purchasing this apartment, and he was still going to spend more.

The walls of the room were bare, the shelves were empty, and the kitchen was devoid of any utensils. The only room he won't be spending money for was his sitting room, and he won't be spending much for his bedroom too. Except, he needed clothings.

Judging by how empty his apartment seem to him, he decided that today was going to be the day he would turn this empty shell of his into a home.

Of course, doing that was going to make him go broke, but he had to, for his own good.

He swung his legs off the bed and padded to the bathroom. The tiles of the bathroom were cold under his feet. He put his sink on and splashed water in his face. It was cool.

His mind wandered through the materials he needed to get as he brushed his teeth. He needed groceries, clothes, kitchenware, maybe a few decorations to make the place feel lived-in.

Maybe, he would have to transfer some money from his Monster bank account to his hunter account. But before he does that, he will convert the money to dollars so that the source won't be easily detected.

Good enough the system had a provision for easily accomplishing this task.

He was done in the bathroom and had gone back to his room to prepare. He was halfway through dressing when he got the knock on the door. He froze, his shirt still hanging loosely atop his head.

'Who could it be?' He was surely not expecting anyone. So, he thought it had been him who misheard the sound.

But, the knock came again. More insistent this time. Buji hurried to the door, pulling his shirt off and throwing it to the bed as he went. He peered through the peephole on the door and saw the lady from the rental agency standing there, her arms crossed and a folder tucked under her right arm.

Buji opened the door, trying as much as he could to hide his surprise. "Good morning," he greeted, stepping aside to let her in.

The lady stepped into the apartment, with eyes in awe and mouth gawped open. Her eyes were locked on Buji, she had forgotten herself.

"Any...problem?" Buji asked, jolting her back to reality.

"Uhm, not at all," she said with uncertainty. "Good morning, I hope I didn't wake you."

"No, no, I was just about to head out to your office to get the paperworks done before going for my activity," Buji said, closing the door behind her and then finally realized, he was bare body.

"Thorough," she repeated, her eyes narrowing slightly. "That's a good quality to have."

Deborah leaned forward slightly, resting her elbows on the table. The movement caused her blouse to shift, revealing just a hint of cleavage. Buji's eyes flickered downward for a split second before he caught himself and looked away.

"So," she continued, her voice dropping to a lower tone, "what are your plans for the day? Besides signing these papers, of course."

Buji cleared his throat, trying to ignore the growing tension in the room. "I was planning to go shopping. The apartment is still pretty empty, and I need clothes."

"Ah," she said, nodding. "That's a good idea. You'll need to make it feel like home."

Maybe she wasn't making sense at all, but Buji could sense that she just wanted to stir up a discussion with him. It should be certainly as he thought it.

Meanwhile, Deborah reached across the table brushing her fingers against Buji's as she adjusted one of the papers. The contact was brief, but it sent a jolt through Buji. He reflexively pulled his hand back, pretending to scratch his arm.

The lady didn't seem to notice—or if she did, she didn't show it. She continued talking with a smooth and inviting voice. "You know, I could help you with that. I've lived in this area for years. I know all the best places to shop."

Buji hesitated, unsure if he should accept her offer. On one hand, it would be helpful to have a guide. On the other hand, he wasn't sure he wanted to spend the day with her. There was something about her that made him uneasy, something he couldn't quite put his finger on.

Before he could respond, she stood up, gathering the signed papers and placing them back in the folder. "Well, that's the paperwork done," she said, her tone light. "Now, about that shopping trip..."

Buji stood as well, feeling the need to put some distance between them. "I appreciate the offer, but I think I can manage on my own."

The lady tilted her head. "Are you sure? It's no trouble, really."

Buji nodded, forcing a smile. "I'm sure. But thank you."

She studied him for a moment, her gaze intense. Then, with a shrug, she turned toward the door. "Alright, then. If you change your mind, you can call me. Oh, you don't seem to have my number."

"Give me yours instead, I will call your to save mine number."

Buji gave her his number and she dialed it. The smile on her face afterwards confused Buji, but he left if slip over.

He followed her to the door, relieved that the interaction was coming to an end. As she stepped into the hallway, she turned back to him with an unreadable expression.

"Oh, and Buji," she said, her voice low, "don't forget to lock your door. You never know who might come knocking. And since you said you needed privacy."

With that, she made to walk away but Buji called her back. "I'm okay with it."

Deborah turned her front to Buji, "okay with what?"

"I will get prepared so you assist me with the shopping," Buji stated.

He didn't know why he had to make this rapt decision but he thought it was fine for her to help him. Especially as he's still new to the environment. Especially since she has a transport means.
