Chapter 143 Appearance Of The Nightmare Shadow & Declaration Of War
The day slowly turned dark as the moon hung in the sky, casting its glow on the ground below.
The Academy was silent, devoid of noise as the teachers had already gone to their homes and the students were already sleeping.
In the hallway of the first floor of the female dorm building, the moonlight peeked through, illuminating the hallway.
As expected, it was silent, and nobody was present. But suddenly...
WHOOSH!
A black smoke whizzed past with speed, traveling through the hallway. As soon as the smoke reached the first door, it stopped and slid through the slight opening under the door, entering the room.
A girl was sleeping peacefully on the bed. The black smoke, which was the Nightmare Shadow, watched her for a few seconds before it moved closer to her.
As soon as its mist-like body came in contact with the girl, it suddenly disappeared.
Meanwhile, the girl suddenly began having a dream... or was it a nightmare?
She suddenly saw herself in a dark, empty space. She looked around fearfully, wondering where she was.
"What is this place?" she muttered.
"The last thing I remember is falling asleep, and now..."
Her fear increased to the point that she began sweating profusely. With no other choice, she was about to shout to see if anybody would answer her, but before she could do that...
WHOOSH!
A black smoke suddenly appeared in front of her.
Her eyes widened in shock as she stared at the Nightmare Shadow. "Who... What... are..."
She stuttered, unable to say anything. She could only watch the swirling black smoke in horror.
"F... Friend...?"
She suddenly heard a voice in her head, and instinctively, she knew that the voice was from the smoke in front of her.
"Wh... What are you talking about?" the girl stuttered as she stumbled backward and began looking around to see if there was any escape path.
"F... Friend. Will you be my friend?" The Nightmare Shadow asked as it began moving closer to the girl.@@@@
The rate at which the girl was sweating instantly increased as she began shaking her head frantically and moving backward, trying to get away from the Nightmare Shadow.
"N... No. Don't come closer. No... No!"
The girl began crying as her breathing became rapid and uneven.
She closed her eyes, and with all the strength she could muster, she screamed.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!"
Instantly, the dark space seemed to start cracking, and before she could process anything...
"AHH!"
She instantly got up from the bed with immense force as she began looking around in fear.
"Uh... Why am I sweating so much? Wait... Am I crying?"
Instantly, she remembered the strange nightmare she just had.
"That was strange..." she muttered. "What was that dark smoke?"
While she was thinking, she failed to notice the same dark smoke she saw in her nightmare. Unknowingly to her, the smoke passed through the space under the door and left the room.
Like that, the Nightmare Shadow continued going from room to room, but the result was the same.
He smirked. "It's happy to see its Lord, huh?"
He gazed outside through the window, ready to initiate the next phase of the plan. "This might be easier than I thought..."
***********
In the throne room of the castle in the Vampire Kingdom, the King was seated on his throne, with the five Progenitors seated on the chairs on the left and right sides of the room.
Thalos stared at the five Progenitors in front of him before speaking.
"I believe I don't need to say the reason why I requested all of you to come here."
"We all know," Darius said as he stroked his beard, a habit of his.
"Perfect," Thalos said. "So I can go straight to the point."
"The Vampire that was sent to the Realm of the Phoenixes returned... dead," Thalos said.
"And his body was even returned with a message on his back that read 'The Fifth Wing,'" Thalos added.
"And apparently, none of us knows what that means," Serak said.
"But that aside," Thalos said. "You all know what this means."
He glanced at all of them before adding, "The Phoenixes have declared war..."
Serak chuckled. "I must say, this war has been coming for a long time now. Now just happened to be the time."
"I agree," Liora said, her eyes shifting to Thalos. "At one point, it would have still happened."
Thalos closed his eyes. "I see..."
He opened his eyes as his expression turned sharp. "With that being said, it's time to start preparing our battle-trained Vampires and even undergo harder training in preparation for the war."
"But before that," he added as he glanced at Liora, "we should inform Progenitor Arin."
Liora nodded. "I'll do that."
"Okay," Thalos said.
His gaze shifted to Vaelric, who was yet to say anything.
Thalos squinted his eyes. "Progenitor Vaelric, you seem to have something to say to me."
Thalos wasn't a fan of games like this. Merely looking at Vaelric, he could tell that he had something to say, and he wanted to make sure Vaelric would say it.
Vaelric frowned. "We've been talking about the Phoenixes, but nobody is even addressing the fact that we have to finish off the humans."
Thalos raised a brow. "That issue again?"
"I thought we had all come to a conclusion about that," Darius said.
"And I'm not satisfied with that conclusion," Vaelric snapped as his frown deepened.
Suddenly, Thalos glared at Vaelric sharply. "There'll be no conversation about the humans ever again... And that's an order!"
Vaelric started laughing, making the other Progenitors and Thalos look at him.
"I'm sorry, King Thalos," Vaelric said. "But I won't take this anymore... I'll have to disobey that order."
Sylas gasped as he stared at Vaelric.
"So are you saying you're going against the King's order?" Liora asked.
Vaelric grinned. "It's obvious... He's not ruling the Vampires well... He's making us weak!"
"And you know what..." Vaelric added with a chilly grin.
Suddenly, all the eyes of the Progenitors shifted towards Vaelric's hand, and the next instant, their eyes widened.
