Chapter 1303 - 1302: Divine Game: Graveyard of Bones 24
Chapter 1303: 1302: Divine Game: Graveyard of Bones 24 "They understand nothing," Quiet Mountain Foolishness concluded.
If only one gemstone eye could remain, then it was better to give it to the other self. At least that way, the other could shatter in completeness.
So QM Foolishness and Starsea Foolishness shared the same philosophy.
Which led to an obvious question.
Rita asked, "Then why didn’t you give your remaining gemstone eye to her?"
"Looks like you’ve been holding that question in for a while," QM Foolishness said. She didn’t seem annoyed at all. "Because I lost."
She stared straight into BS Rita’s eyes and repeated, word by word,
"Because I lost our match."
She saw the brief moment of confusion on Rita’s face turn into realization.
Then irritation.
Then a helpless laugh.
QM Foolishness knew she understood.
She had lost to Starsea Foolishness. One gemstone had lost to another.
Starsea Foolishness would rather dig out her own eye to make the other "complete" than accept an inferior gemstone to perfect herself. Because to her, QM Foolishness’s eye was also flawed.
Just like what QM Foolishness had said earlier.
"We cannot tolerate defects or inferior products."
The "defect" referred to having only one remaining eye.
The "inferior product" referred to the eye that had lost to her.
But if the outcome had been reversed, if QM Foolishness had won, then Starsea Foolishness would never have accepted it either.
There was no solution to this problem.
Rita let out another exasperated laugh.
Compared to Foolishness, she felt like she had no right to talk about arrogance.
But QM Foolishness?
"She just accepted that?" Rita asked. "Doesn’t that piss you off?"
QM Foolishness’s expression turned slightly awkward.
After holding it in for a while, she muttered,
"Not great. But I was already dead, so... it’s fine."
Rita: ????
She fell silent for a long moment before asking,
"Do you two have some kind of obsessive disorder?"
If QM Foolishness had still been alive, she probably would have ripped the eye out and crushed it on the spot.
But since she was already dead... might as well pursue completeness.
QM Foolishness didn’t deny it. She just gave Rita a quiet, wordless glare, then lowered her head and continued examining the Foolishness Game in her hand.
Case closed.
Both Foolishnesses had obsessive tendencies.
"Didn’t you ever think about finding those two bullets?" Rita continued. "Or even if you did, they wouldn’t be your gemstone eyes anymore?"
"Even if we found them, they wouldn’t be gemstone eyes anymore. And those two initial bullets aren’t easy to locate."
Rita took out the Romantic Bullet and placed it on her palm, offering it over.
"Want to try?"
With permission, QM Foolishness could use the gun and this bullet.
"The two bullets..." QM Foolishness took the Romantic Bullet and loaded it into the chamber.
She stared at the gun for a long time.
Then she returned both the gun and the bullet to Rita, putting her monocle back on.
"I thought about it for a long time, but I can’t find a personality trait of mine worth betting on for that bullet to return."
"I showed this bullet to Starsea Foolishness before," Rita said as she removed it again. "Asked her if she wanted to try. She said she had no lost treasure."
She swapped it out for the Arrogance Bullet, which could multiply the lowest stat tenfold.
"That makes sense," QM Foolishness said. "Those two bullets aren’t gemstone eyes anymore. There’s no guarantee they’d come back."
"So what exactly needs to happen for those initial bullets to return to the Foolishness Game?" Rita finally asked. "I’ve gone against my instincts plenty of times since getting this gun, but I’ve never seen those two bullets."
This was the real question she had been circling toward all along.
What she truly wanted to ask was how the two Foolishnesses created the Foolishness Game in the first place, and how they each lost an eye.
But the moment wasn’t right yet.
Even so, QM Foolishness easily saw through her careful probing.
She simply extended her hand.
"Let me see that coin."
Rita handed over My Sigh without hesitation.
QM Foolishness toyed with the coin, then continued,
"Each time you go against your own instincts, one special bullet can return to you.
"And each time you make someone else go against their instincts for your sake, one initial bullet can return to the Foolishness Game.
"Struggling between instinct and reality. That is the essence of Foolishness’s game."
Rita narrowed her eyes slightly.
"So when you created this gun, was it deliberate design, or just coincidence?"
QM Foolishness snorted.
"Don’t try those little tricks. I won’t fall for that kind of provocation."
She handed the coin back.
Rita thought she might have annoyed her.
But then QM Foolishness said,
"Use your One Call reward to send a message to Starsea Foolishness. Then I’ll consider telling you a bit about what happened back then."
Even with all the hedging words like "consider" and "a bit," Rita immediately agreed.
"Deal. What do you want me to say?"
QM Foolishness said,
"Tell her this. Foolishness, the reason Divine Game created the Toy system for you is because what you make is neither worthy of being a relic nor an item. Toys have no future. That’s why they can only ever be toys."
Rita didn’t even have time to process the fact that Foolishness had created the Toy system.
She just stared at her.
"...If you want me dead, just say it directly."
"Isn’t it anonymous?"
"Only talking to the dead is truly anonymous," Rita replied gravely. "As long as the other person is alive, true anonymity doesn’t exist."
She waited for a response.
None came.
She turned her head.
QM Foolishness was staring at her.
Dead QM Foolishness: "Are you provoking me?"
Rita: "..."
"You’re overreacting. I’m just explaining. Also, doesn’t that insult include you too?"
She had already noticed something.
The relationship between Starsea Foolishness and QM Foolishness was... strange.
They didn’t hate each other like other copies and originals.
They treated each other as another version of themselves.
Another possibility.
They could cooperate.
They could kill each other in competition.
And after death, they could still send each other off.
"As long as it annoys her, that’s enough," QM Foolishness said.
"And my life doesn’t matter at all?" Rita shot back.
"It doesn’t matter," QM Foolishness replied calmly. "As long as you say that line about toys having no future, she’ll know it was me. I just want her to come find me."
