Wasteland Border Inspector

Chapter 281: Liu Bi Emerges, A New Beginning!

Chapter 281: Liu Bi Emerges, A New Beginning!

The days passed methodically, lacking any real excitement or upheaval. In a daze, another half-month quietly slipped away before anyone realized it.

To outsiders, Cheng Ye, the newly promoted Core Inspector, seemed to have truly cast aside all ambitions for power and profit. Leaving the turbulent undercurrents of the buffer zone behind, he dove headfirst into the construction of the satellite town, no longer concerning himself with external disputes.

Initially, the Integrity Supervision Department dispatched personnel to guard the outskirts of Dabo Town, keeping a close eye on his every move.

However, as time dragged on and Cheng Ye showed absolutely no intention of returning to the city, these agents eventually gave up completely.

After all, manipulating a Low-Tier Inspector and manipulating a Core Inspector were two entirely different matters.

They had originally targeted the newly appointed Cheng Ye to create a breach in the Inspection Station, hoping to test the station's true bottom line.

But Cheng Ye consistently refused to take the bait. These carefully orchestrated probes turned into a joke, making their methods appear clumsy and unsightly instead.

Furthermore, since Ding Yishan promptly handed over the Guard unit and put on a show of fully cooperating with the establishment of the Integrity Supervision Department, the overt conflicts between the two sides were effectively suppressed.

September 26th.

The industrial zone.

Lei Hu sat in the newly established Inspection Station office, his gaze sweeping over the dozen or so Inspectors standing below.

Their expressions varied. Some were unreadable, others wore solemn faces, and a few looked somewhat miserable.

These were the Inspectors whose hands were not entirely clean after the Inspection Station's internal review, ranging in Rank from stage one to stage four. If the Integrity Supervision Department caught them for questioning, they would inevitably confess to numerous things detrimental to the Inspection Station.

Because of this, Lei Hu had specifically brought them all to the industrial zone to work.

Firstly, they could help share the burden of dispatching supplies to the satellite towns. Secondly, this alleviated the pressure on Ding Yishan, slowing down the current tense pace and buying more development time for each satellite town.

Of course, a tall and sturdy figure in the corner stood out like a sore thumb. He could hardly conceal his excitement, looking especially conspicuous amidst the room's solemn atmosphere.

Lei Hu glanced over and sighed inwardly.

He had a history of discord with Cheng Long in his early years, but he had to admit that Cheng Long's conduct had always been upright. The Inspectors who followed him all had clean records as well.

If the Integrity Supervision Department actually managed to dig up dirt on Liu Bi, then probably no one from top to bottom in the Inspection Station would be spared.

However, now was clearly not the time to ponder such things.

Lei Hu pulled his thoughts back and asked in a deep voice, "Have the illicit funds that were traced back to you guys been fully returned?

"

"Returned! We returned every single cent!" a few Inspectors hastily stepped forward and chimed in simultaneously.

Lei Hu gave a slight nod, but his expression suddenly darkened as his eyes locked onto a short, fat figure who had not moved from the crowd. "Wei Yuantun, what about your illicit funds? Why are you keeping quiet?"

"S-Station Chief Lei..." Cold sweat poured down Wei Yuantun's forehead, and his voice trembled. "The verified amount is simply too massive. I can't produce that kind of money right now... I can't return it."

"You know damn well the amount is massive?!" Lei Hu's voice was a low, booming rumble that echoed through the room, making everyone's eardrums ache. "Just the verified amount alone comes to two hundred and thirty thousand Contribution Points! I am absolutely astounded. Where did an ordinary Third-Stage Inspector like you get so much money?!"

"Station Chief Lei, this money isn't illicit, it's an investment!" Wei Yuantun frantically explained. "When foreign merchant caravans came to me for cash flow, I always wrote out IOUs to borrow their funds. I never used my identity as an Inspector to extort them! Furthermore, I invested all this money with a few Fourth-Stage Inspectors in the station. Once they return in the winter—yes, once they return—I can definitely plug this deficit!"

"Heh..." Lei Hu let out a cold laugh dripping with mockery. "You didn't use your Inspector identity? Then why did those IOUs bear the station's official seal instead of your Private Seal, Wei Yuantun?"

Hearing this, Wei Yuantun instantly lost his nerve to argue back.

In the past, whenever a merchant caravan arrived in Happiness City, he would always approach them to borrow anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand Contribution Points.

Afterward, he would pool these funds and invest them in the Fourth-Stage Inspectors who were out on missions, waiting to collect dividends at the end of the year.

But regardless of whether he ultimately paid the money back or not, the mere fact that his borrowing procedures were irregular was enough to slap him with the label of extortion.

And currently, the total amount verified from his IOUs had reached a staggering two hundred and thirty thousand Contribution Points.

"Tell me, what do you need so much money for? Are you saving it to buy your own life?" Lei Hu's tone was brimming with anger.

"This... this was all for the development of the Inspection Station." Wei Yuantun hastily wiped the cold sweat from his face, forcing himself to argue his case. "When the station's High-Tier Inspectors go out every spring, they also look to us for short-term loans. I was simply helping them solve their cash flow problems. Besides, I only keep half of the annual dividends. Didn't I hand the other half over to the station?"

"Get lost!" Lei Hu roared. "You actually dared to pocket half? You will pay back all of this year's profits, along with everything from previous years! Hand every single cent over to the Inspection Station without missing a fraction! Otherwise, I'll personally toss you to the Integrity Supervision Department. Do you understand?!"

"Understood! Understood, Station Chief Lei!" Hearing Lei Hu finally relent, Wei Yuantun hurriedly patted his chest and guaranteed, "The moment Inspector Liming returns, I'll pay the money in full immediately!"

Compared to the others, the mess he had made could easily rank in the top three.

Most of the other Inspectors in the station were alone with no attachments, but his Wei family was a large and prominent household. With a full hundred mouths to feed, which aspect of their daily expenses didn't require money?

Moreover, he had not only invested in the Inspectors but had also placed investments in several Gathering Places out in the Wilderness.

Before, when no one looked too closely, everyone praised him for being capable. Now that they were cracking down, all of these ventures had turned into evidence of his crimes.

Furthermore, the funds uncovered so far were only what was on the surface. He didn't even dare to imagine what would happen if the supplies he had secretly smuggled out were also discovered. Would the Inspection Station truly sacrifice him for the greater good just to sever ties with him?

Lei Hu took several heavy, deep breaths to suppress the surging fury in his chest before asking grimly, "And what about you few who have been smuggling controlled supplies to the surrounding Gathering Places and sanctuary cities? What do you have to say for yourselves?"

The room descended into a deathly silence. No one answered.

The few Inspectors involved looked at each other, their faces incredibly ugly, yet they could not utter a single word.

Those who embezzled money could at least return it to maintain a facade of innocence, but their situation was entirely unsalvageable. They could not possibly dispatch people to silence everyone who knew about the supply smuggling pipeline, right?

Besides, smuggling supplies outwards was an open secret that everyone was aware of; it was just that no one had ever strictly enforced the rules before.

Now that it was suddenly being investigated with severe scrutiny, without so much as a whisper of advance warning, they were genuinely at a loss.

"Good! Very good!" Lei Hu laughed out of extreme anger, his palm slapping heavily against his chair leg, emitting sharp smacks. "It seems you all really need to go Drink Tea at the Integrity Supervision Department to properly reflect on what kind of atrocious deeds you've committed over the years!"

He glared at the group, his tone uncompromising. "Do I need to teach you how to handle this? The supplies you took out must be paid back to the Inspection Station double! Give them back to Happiness City! That is what acknowledging and correcting your mistakes looks like. Do you understand?!"

"Uh..." The room was quiet for a long moment before a few scattered responses trickled in: "Understood!"

Seeing their half-hearted demeanor, Lei Hu pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a long sigh, utterly exhausted.

However, just as the atmosphere settled into gloomy stagnation, a deep male voice suddenly shattered the silence. "Station Chief Lei, my mission is complete. Can I leave here and head back to the buffer zone now?"

Everyone's gaze instinctively snapped toward the speaker in unison.

Despite being stared at by over a dozen pairs of eyes, Liu Bi didn't mind in the slightest. He grinned broadly, revealing a row of white teeth, his smile extraordinarily unbridled and flamboyant.

Lei Hu raised his head again, opening his mouth as if to say something, but ultimately just said in a low voice, "Inspector Liu, your mission completion request has been approved. You can go pack your luggage shortly."

"I already packed! I got everything sorted out yesterday!" Liu Bi quickly replied, completely unable to hide the excitement in his voice.

These words pierced the ears of the other Inspectors like steel needles.

They were all stuck in the industrial zone together, but while they were tormented by anxiety, Liu Bi could leave completely carefree. This stark contrast was truly unbearable.

"Dabo Town submitted a request yesterday for critical supplies to repair the Hydroelectric Station. I figured I'd escort the shipment over and hitch a ride at the same time," Liu Bi added.

"Go on. Fill out a form in my office and get out of here," Lei Hu waved his hand, saying no more.

Previously, keeping Liu Bi in the industrial zone meant he could lend a helping hand and say the blunt things that Lei Hu found inconvenient to voice himself.

But now, with over a dozen Inspectors at his disposal, he had more than enough manpower to run errands and pour tea, let alone handle administrative tasks. Making a Fourth-Stage Inspector like Liu Bi waste his time here was purely squandering talent.

Moreover, everyone present knew exactly why Ding Yishan had originally dispatched Liu Bi to the industrial zone.

Now that Cheng Ye had smoothly inherited Brother Long's legacy, he had almost seamlessly taken over the vast majority of Cheng Long's Power.

The speed of this transition was astonishingly fast, yet everyone found it surprisingly easy to accept.

It was simply a matter of treating the young Cheng Ye as an extension of Cheng Long. Furthermore, compared to Cheng Long's rigid style, Cheng Ye's personality was clearly much more likable and flexible.

Liu Bi nodded. Full of vigor, he turned and pushed the door open to leave, his footsteps radiating a breezy lightness.

Outside the office door, another equally tall and burly man was already waiting.

Seeing him emerge, the man immediately approached. "Brother Bi, how did it go?"

"Let's go, let's go! We can finally bounce!" The joy on Liu Bi's face was completely unconcealed.

Although this mission, from the day they left the city until today, had only lasted a little over three months.

Compared to their Field Duty assignments in previous years, this year's job had been exceptionally easy and comfortable.

However, with the constant turmoil in the buffer zone recently and Happiness City undergoing major changes, his time here had felt like years.

If they hadn't still been relying on him to coordinate the supply dispatch, he would have washed his hands of the whole thing and left long ago.

The two of them walked into Lei Hu's office. Liu Bi casually grabbed a city departure form, filled it out, and nimbly stamped it with the official seal of the Inspection Station's temporary office.

Clutching the newly acquired departure form, he finally let out a long breath of relief. He turned to the man beside him and smiled. "Old Niu, it's been tough on you running errands with me here these past three months. Sorry for the trouble."

"What trouble?" Niu Fu, affectionately known as Old Niu, waved his hand dismissively. "We barely moved an inch while staying in the industrial zone. Whatever we wanted to eat or drink was supplied without limit every single day. It was even more comfortable than the Inner City."

"True enough. But Cheng Ye is probably getting anxious. He's been waiting for me to go on Field Duty with him." Liu Bi carefully tucked the departure form into his breast pocket. He then returned to his assigned, cramped room and quickly emerged carrying two packed duffel bags. He slung one over his shoulder and handed the other to Niu Fu.

According to the rules, ordinary Inspectors were not qualified to be assigned a dedicated Administrative Officer. But as long as one was promoted to a Third-Stage Inspector, they could apply to the Inspection Station for special staffing privileges.

Someone like Niu Fu publicly held the title of a driver for the Public Works Department, allowing him to collect a salary from the Public Works Department while also receiving additional stipends from the Inspection Station.

It was a pity that all the other Administrative Officers working under Cheng Long's subordinates had participated in that "disaster." Now, in their entire little faction, only he and Niu Fu were left to rely on each other.

The two walked out of the office and navigated their way with practiced ease toward the Logistics Dispatch Zone.

It was somewhat similar to a modern long-distance bus terminal. Each satellite town had a dedicated Large Warehouse set up here, exclusively used for storing supplies awaiting transport.

The operations in the logistics zone never ceased.

Every day, from six in the morning to nine at night, an endless stream of transport trucks came and went, steadily shipping vast quantities of freshly produced materials to various satellite towns. Then, from nine at night to six the following morning, dedicated personnel would transfer the supplies requested by the sanctuary cities from the factories into these logistics warehouses in batches, preparing them for the next day's distribution.

Walking up to Logistics Warehouse Number Sixteen, which bore a sign reading "Dabo Town," they saw the workers inside busily loading trucks.

Liu Bi stepped forward and meticulously inspected every crate. The boxes were filled with the Special Superior-Grade Materials he had personally finalized yesterday, without a hint of adulteration.

"Not bad. Make sure they are all securely strapped down," he instructed. "These are critical supplies meant for the Hydroelectric Station. Absolutely do not let any turbulence on the road ruin them."

"Yes, Inspector Liu!" the workers answered in unison, their hands moving with even greater caution.

They had begun loading this batch of supplies at six in the morning and had been at it for a solid three hours. Yet, by the time everything was safely stowed onto the trucks, it was already delayed until one-thirty in the afternoon.

At that moment, Manager Zhang, who was in charge of the logistics warehouse, walked over holding a thick manifest. "Inspector Liu, this is the manifest for the current shipment. Please verify it."

Over the past few days, Liu Bi had personally cross-checked every supply shipment headed for Dabo Town to ensure there were no omissions or errors. Manager Zhang was already accustomed to this routine.

"Let me see." Liu Bi took the manifest and verified it line by line against the cargo on the trucks. Once he confirmed everything was correct, he smiled and said, "Manager Zhang, I've really troubled you during this period. Thank you for your hard work."

"Inspector Liu, you're being too formal." Manager Zhang hastily waved his hand. "It is precisely because you've been keeping an eye on things that the Dabo Town logistics warehouse is so well-managed. Just look at the other warehouses; there are people from the satellite towns making a fuss about the quality or quantity of supplies every single day. We've never had that sort of mess here, and the staff at the other warehouses are all green with envy.

"

"Heh heh." Liu Bi scratched his head, laughing slightly sheepishly.

He knew full well that the reason people from other satellite towns came to complain was that defective goods were frequently mixed into their shipments.

The reason nobody from Dabo Town came to complain was simply because he was standing guard right here. Any issues were resolved on the spot, leaving no chance for disputes to drag out later.

"After I leave, I probably won't be back here for a while," Liu Bi said, stowing away his smile to instruct earnestly. "For Dabo Town's future supply needs, I'll have to trouble Manager Zhang to pay close attention. Maintain the exact same standard as when I was here; do not lower it even a fraction. Otherwise, I might come back at any moment to settle the score."

"Rest assured, Inspector Liu!" Manager Zhang promised, patting his chest. "After you leave, I will strictly follow your rules. All supplies must be verified at least three times before being loaded, and after loading, they must be double-checked twice more. Only when I confirm everything is flawless will the crates be sealed and the trucks dispatched."

"Many thanks!"

Liu Bi solemnly cupped his hands at Manager Zhang. Before climbing into the truck, he picked up a pen and efficiently signed off on the thick stack of handover receipts Manager Zhang presented.

Niu Fu watched from the side, clicking his tongue in amazement. Once the two climbed into the lead transport truck, he finally couldn't help but ask, "Brother Bi, did you just dump all your life savings from over the years into Dabo Town's construction?"

"I didn't have much money to begin with. It was only forty thousand Contribution Points in total, which doesn't even amount to the pocket change of some Third-Stage Inspectors."

Liu Bi's expression remained unchanged, completely unfazed by his own "bankruptcy." "I'm a solitary man with no attachments. I don't need to spend in the Inner City, nor do I have any major expenses. To me, these Contribution Points are just a string of numbers. But right now, Dabo Town is in desperate need of funds and supplies. Brother Long didn't leave a single cent behind when he left. The pressure on Cheng Ye's shoulders must be far greater than we can imagine."

He had calculated it clearly in his mind. These forty thousand Contribution Points might be of some help during Dabo Town's initial startup phase, but once the town was on track, this amount of money wouldn't even cause a splash.

Just like these truckloads of supplies currently en route to the Hydroelectric Station—their combined value alone was a staggering ninety-seven thousand Contribution Points.

He might as well dump his entire net worth into this critical startup phase to help Cheng Ye take his first solid step.

"That's true." Niu Fu nodded in deep agreement. "These days I've been hearing people go on and on about how much Dabo Town has changed. It always felt a bit surreal, but now I finally get to see it for myself."

He changed the subject and asked, "Should we give Inspector Cheng a call first to let him know?"

"No need. Let's just head straight there and give him a surprise." Liu Bi quickly shook his head.

If they told him in advance, Cheng Ye might very well line people up at the town entrance to welcome them. Just thinking about that scene made him cringe with embarrassment.

Niu Fu nodded in response. He then picked up the walkie-talkie and methodically directed the five transport trucks as they slowly rolled out of the logistics zone.

By the time the convoy drove all the way to the Outpost Inspection Station, the changes along the road were already visible to the naked eye.

"This road really has been overhauled!"

Liu Bi stuck his head out, looking back and forth. When he had come to the industrial zone three months ago, this national highway could only be considered barely passable. Especially the section from the industrial zone to the Hydroelectric Station, which hadn't been repaired for security reasons and still required cutting through roughly five kilometers of jungle.

Yet the national highway before his eyes was as smooth as a mirror, without the slightest bump or undulation.

Even riding in a transport truck with average suspension, there was a weightless, floating sensation, devoid of any jolting.

"Not bad at all. The changes this year alone rival the total progress of the past four or five years combined..." Liu Bi gazed at the scenery on both sides of the road, his heart swelling with gratification.

As the truck drove toward the direction of Wenlu County, a roadside sign reading "Dabo Town" suddenly caught his eye.

He had seen those three words countless times back in the logistics warehouse, but seeing them appear here on the side of a desolate road gave him an inexplicable sense of unreality. It felt as if in the three months he had been gone, the outside world had undergone an earth-shattering transformation.

Moreover, the condition of this road leading to Dabo Town was not inferior to the main artery connecting Happiness City to the industrial zone. It was similarly paved with pitch-black, gleaming asphalt, the surface clean enough to reflect the drifting clouds in the sky.

The only imperfection was that the Wilderness beside the road had yet to be reclaimed. Looking off into the distance, it was a vast, desolate expanse that radiated a sense of bleakness.

The convoy entered the jurisdiction of Wenlu County. As they approached the fork in the road, they could faintly make out the silhouettes of buildings in Wenlu County that had just begun construction.

This lined up with what the truck drivers had mentioned during their idle chatter: ever since Zhou Changhai defected, the construction of Wenlu County had been completely shelved.

Now, not only did their supply requests require Inner City approval before anything could be dispatched, but their internal construction plans had to be entirely scrapped and redrawn from scratch because Xi Yan had been taken away.

The reason was simple: Xi Yan knew the initial defensive layout and its potential vulnerabilities like the back of his hand.

If Wenlu County were built according to the original plans, and Starship took the opportunity to infiltrate it, the resulting disaster would be catastrophic.

Therefore, they had no choice but to temporarily alter the blueprints. In particular, all the underground security facilities had to be redesigned from the ground up.

"What a pity," Liu Bi sighed softly. "Although Zhou Changhai enjoyed playing clever little tricks, he didn't seem like the type of person who would make such a massive blunder."

As he spoke, he couldn't help but fall into his memories.

It wasn't until the truck slowly veered and fully merged onto the dedicated road leading to Dabo Town that he snapped back to reality.

This road was still a glossy, black, and perfectly level eight-lane highway. The standards hadn't shrunk in the slightest. Based solely on the road infrastructure, Dabo Town had won unanimous praise from all the truck drivers who ran this route.

Compared to traveling to other sanctuary cities, which always involved navigating stretches of pothole-ridden dirt roads, the journey to Dabo Town was absurdly smooth. Apart from a few curves that required deceleration, they could floor the accelerator and charge forward on the rest of the route.

Furthermore, unlike the outskirts of Wenlu County, although Dabo Town hadn't installed an Isolation Zone or guardrails along the roadside, they had cleared the surrounding wasteland outwards by nearly two hundred meters, leaving a wide, empty perimeter.

This way, even if an Infection Source or Infected Body suddenly charged out, people on the road would spot it immediately, allowing ample time to react.

The trucks advanced another two kilometers or so. Suddenly, the pristine asphalt road in their field of vision was severed by an orderly cluster of buildings.

An outpost station, bearing a style similar to the industrial zone, stood solidly across the center of the road.

Its main structure was highly distinctive. Two symmetrical watchtowers with pointed roofs stood tall, connected in the middle by an arched corridor. From a distance, it looked exactly like an elongated letter "M," exuding a certain grim austerity under the grey sky.

The four-lane road, handling both incoming and outgoing traffic, was clearly demarcated. Layers of barricades were deployed in front of each lane. Pitch-black anti-ram bollards were neatly arranged, and retractable metal barriers hung suspended halfway. Alongside them were speed bumps and reflective warning signs, constantly reminding passing vehicles to slow down.

From the crossbeam above the outpost hung a striking blue iron plaque. Five bold white characters reading "Dabo Inspection Station" stood out vividly. The calligraphy was vigorous and powerful, swaying slightly in the wind.

Unfortunately, after a few glances, Liu Bi determined that this Inspection Station served only a Screening purpose.

The main structure was built with ordinary steel. If it actually encountered a troublesome Infected Body or a Fusion Entity, it would likely be torn to shreds in minutes.

However, Dabo Town didn't have any large-scale population influx at the moment, so for now, they only needed to monitor the condition of external arrivals.

Setting up a station here to primarily verify whether incoming and outgoing drivers were infected was sufficient.

Once the town developed in the future, they could gradually construct a more comprehensive Inspection Station to further fortify their defensive lines.

The convoy slowly rolled to a stop for inspection. All the drivers and accompanying personnel disembarked, lining up to cooperate with the questioning and infection testing.

It was soon Liu Bi's turn. Seeing the burly, towering figure approach, Luo Kuke, who was sitting behind the checkpoint, couldn't help but freeze. Liu Bi, who had previously seen photographs of Luo Kuke, was equally stunned.

"Why are you working here?"

"Why didn't you call ahead?"

The two spoke simultaneously. As their voices trailed off, their expressions unconsciously shifted, and a faint awkwardness drifted into the air.

"Didn't the assessment end ages ago? Cheng Ye won. Why are you still staying in Dabo Town?"

"Did you just come straight out of the industrial zone without knowing a single thing about what's happening outside?"

Once again, they spoke at the same time. Luo Kuke hurriedly stood up, smiling as he made an inviting gesture. "You first."

"What are you..." Liu Bi stared at him, his face full of bewilderment.

"I've already joined the Dabo Inspection Station. I'm just waiting to officially transfer my staff assignment here," Luo Kuke said matter-of-factly.

Although he and Liu Bi had never interacted before, he had already learned a bit about the man through documented reports.

Rather than beating around the bush with empty pleasantries, it was easier to gain trust by being straightforward and speaking the truth.

"Why?" Liu Bi frowned in confusion, his eyes sweeping Luo Kuke up and down.

"It's a long story," Luo Kuke shook his head. "Even if I spent ages explaining it, you might not believe me. You'd be better off going in and having a good chat with Inspector Cheng. Once he explains it, you'll understand."

"Hmm..." Liu Bi pondered for a few seconds before nodding. "Regardless of why you came, as long as you're genuinely staying to work for Dabo Town, I have no objections."

"Heh..." Luo Kuke smiled, extending an olive branch. "Inspector Liu, I hope we can be friends from now on."

Liu Bi didn't take the bait, merely observing Luo Kuke with a thoughtful gaze.

In a daze, he actually saw the shadows of those who had willingly followed Cheng Long all those years ago overlapping with Luo Kuke.

But on second thought, wasn't Cheng Ye previously just a Trainee Inspector?

Luo Kuke was a genuine Third-Stage Inspector. Even Cheng Long back in the day, when he was just a Low-Tier Inspector, didn't possess the kind of overwhelming charisma to draw High-Tier Inspectors into following him so devotedly. His rallying power was only gradually established after he had been promoted to stage three.

By the time Luo Kuke finished meticulously verifying the convoy's paperwork and personnel status according to procedure, confirmed there were no issues, and raised his hand to signal them through, Liu Bi still hadn't figured out the answer to this puzzle.

However, he vaguely sniffed out some unusual clues. For instance... Luo Kuke's legs, which appeared normal but moved with a noticeable stiffness when he walked.

But he didn't pester him with further questions. They were already here anyway. Once he entered Dabo Town, all his doubts would naturally be answered.

The five transport trucks started their engines once more, driving past the checkpoint in a neat line as they continued deeper toward Dabo Town.

The vehicles advanced another three kilometers. The road beneath them had remained perfectly straight without a single curve, yet upon crossing a certain threshold, the surrounding scenery abruptly sharpened into focus.

Wave after wave of hammering and the roaring of machinery rolled in continuously from the distance, saturated with the thick atmosphere of construction.

Looking toward the roadside, the Wilderness surrounding Dabo Town had been swept completely clean, deliberately leaving a wide, empty perimeter that looked exceptionally tidy.

Within this vast, empty ring, dozens of Engineering Vehicles were shuttling back and forth, bustling with feverish activity. It was astonishingly even livelier than Wenlu County.

Looking up ahead, the silhouette of a sprawling, unbroken town had vividly come into view.

There was not the slightest hint of dilapidation; there was only an aura of civilization that rivaled Wenlu County itself.

Dabo Town... they had arrived!
