Chapter 6 Character Modifications
Chapter 6 Character Modifications
Lei Zhicheng uttered a single sentence and left the cliff.
A few hundred meters later, they happened to run into the soldiers who were returning with bolts.
"Political Commissar Lei!"
The soldier saluted with one hand.
Lei Zhicheng casually raised his hand in return, then pulled the soldier over his shoulder and said softly, "I'm giving you a task: follow him 24 hours a day and don't let him leave the base. Report any unusual activity to me immediately, no matter what time it is."
"Yes."
Soldiers stand at attention.
Lei Zhicheng gave no further instructions, got into the Jeep parked by the roadside, and rushed to the office.
He held Ye Wenjie back because he knew her inside and out.
But Li Youyu...
Lei Zhicheng frowned.
If Li Youyu is indeed a spy, then there must be other accomplices of his lurking within the base.
He needs to find all these people and shut them up completely.
The fewer people who know about the discovery of extraterrestrial civilizations, the better; he must control the variables involved.
At the edge of the cliff, Li Youyu kicked the hacksaw that Ye Wenjie had thrown aside into the bushes, then removed the broken safety rope from his body and threw it off the cliff.
Lei Zhicheng used his family and children as leverage to subdue Ye Wenjie.
But after his recent actions, Lei Zhicheng will find that there is now another unstable factor in the base.
Lei Zhicheng was a cadre who excelled in his studies and then entered officialdom; his sense of political maneuvering was far more acute than his academic sense.
If he wasn't sure about his own background, he certainly wouldn't have rashly reported the Trisolaran civilization.
Otherwise, if superiors come to the base to investigate and he turns out to be an undercover agent, Lei Zhicheng, as the person in charge, will be the first to suffer.
Li Youyu didn't want Lei Zhicheng to report the discovery of the Trisolaran civilization, partly out of consideration for Ye Wenjie.
On the other hand, exposing the Trisolaran civilization to the world's attention too early would inevitably lead to significant changes to the original storyline.
If things get beyond Li Youyu's control, it will be much more difficult for him to complete the mission.
Without the threat of the Trisolarans, Earth's civilization would never have implemented a plan like the Wallfacers, which places individual will above national boundaries.
Therefore, the idea of recommending Ye Wenjie as a Wallfacer is out of the question.
Therefore, although Lei Zhicheng did not die, the fact that the Trisolaran civilization was hidden could not be changed in any way.
He even wants to facilitate the establishment of the ETO.
He wanted to plant a seed in Lei Zhicheng's heart through conversation, letting the seed take root and sprout in a corner he couldn't see, until he bound him to his own chariot.
The following day, Li Youyu ate, slept, and worked his shift as usual.
He also used the identity given to him by the system to meet with many people in the base in order to divert Lei Zhicheng's attention.
Taking advantage of Lei Zhicheng's moment of confusion, Li Youyu carefully considered the next course of action.
The top secret of the Red Coast Base was the search for extraterrestrial life. In the original story, after Lei Zhicheng died, the Red Coast Base, which had not produced any results for a long time, was removed from the military and merged into the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Within a few years, it was changed from a highly classified national defense project to a general-purpose project.
In the 1980s, due to the enormous operating costs, the Chinese Academy of Sciences was unable to afford them, which eventually led to the Hongan Base being converted to civilian use and subsequently shut down.
Now, although Lei Zhicheng is not dead, the fact that the Red Coast Base has not produced any results is irreversible.
Losing the Red Coast Base meant losing the initiative to contact the Trisolarans, which led to Evans establishing a second Red Coast Base, illegally intercepting Trisolaran information, and developing the ETO.
Li Youyu's idea was to lure Lei Zhicheng to the Second Red Coast Base to transmit information about the Trisolarans and pave the way for the subsequent implementation of the Wallfacer Project.
I just don't know if such a promising cadre would be willing to do this job.
While pondering, Li Youyu suddenly noticed the reward that had popped up earlier from the system.
[Receive one opportunity to modify character background]
What is this?
I was so focused on my conversation with Ye Wenjie that I subconsciously ignored this message.
Upon clicking, pages of character profiles appeared before my eyes:

Directly change the character settings?
If you draw Ye Wenjie, wouldn't it be perfect to just add "become a Wallfacer after several years" after her name?
It's obvious that the system won't do something for free.
The names of the characters began to jump around with Li Youyu's thoughts, and finally settled on an inconspicuous name.
[Character can be modified]
[Cheng Lihua: Representative of the Military Control Academy...further details unknown.]
It was her.
That works too.
Through her, Li Youyu was very confident that he could get Lei Zhicheng to the Second Red Coast Base.
After a moment's consideration, Li Youyu removed the "unclear details" from Cheng Lihua's background introduction and added a short paragraph:
After the reform and opening up, Cheng Lihua, whose career was not going well, was transferred to the Second Artillery Corps and put in direct command of the Hong'an Base.
After finishing his writing, Li Youyu stood up.
His interpersonal relationships at the Red Coast Base were relatively simple. Lei Zhicheng had been investigating intensively for a day, and it was almost time to wrap things up.
The time has come for him to take action.
Before going to find Lei Zhicheng, he had to go to see Ye Wenjie first.
Ye Wenjie and Yang Weining's home is very close to his dormitory, only a five-minute walk away.
He hadn't taken two steps when he spotted a thin figure walking towards him from the roadside.
It's Ye Wenjie.
She was still wearing that faded military uniform, but because of her background, the base did not issue her the red collar insignia that symbolized the collective.
Behind Ye Wenjie was the continuous mountain range of the Greater Khingan Mountains. At this moment, the mountains seemed like a deity, watching her without sorrow or joy.
Li Youyu stopped walking and stood still, quietly watching this woman who, single-handedly, created the greatest crisis in human civilization.
