Chapter 346 Masks and Motives
Chapter 346 Masks and Motives
After Akun had slammed the door to his room shut, he sank into the plush bed, the stress of the day leaving his shoulders in a whoosh. With a sigh, he muttered a command to the system. "Unequip my armor and trench coat."
A momentary shimmer of light enveloped him, stripping away his outfit. He was now dressed in simple attire – a white shirt and brown leather pants. His long silver hair flowed freely down his back, momentarily covering the silver hair pin that held it in place. Explore more stories with My Virtual Library Empire
He felt restless. He clenched his fists till they became white. He called out to the system with frustration in his voice, "Is there anything, anything at all, you can tell me about Aric?"
Silence. Then, the familiar, emotionless voice of the system echoed in his mind. †[Unfortunately, insufficient privileges exists to access any information about the individual designated 'Aric'.]†
Akun let out a low growl, removing the system window away from his point of view with a swipe of his hand. "This is frustrating. If... if it was truly I who sent him here, why? Why send him at all? Shouldn't the me of the future be strong enough to handle things on his own?"
†[-AD- Has grown slightly!]†
The system then chimed in, †[It would be best if the player took a more direct approach to understanding things rather than relying on the system.]†
Akun let out a deep, weary sigh as he sank onto the bed, the soft feathers inside it shifting to accommodate his weight. He muttered, "I already knew that was going to be the case. The announcer mentioned he was a student from some 'Royal Castle Academy.' Maybe I can go there, try to have a conversation with him, and find out what his mission is."
She appeared flustered as if something important was on her mind... perhaps her mother's words.
Kaldarix paid little attention to it, his focus now on someone else. "Mellin, it seems she isn't sleepy yet," he mused, narrowing his gaze at her.
He mused further, "If she has yet to fall asleep, then I can approach her now and have 'that' talk." Kaldarix had a matter of importance on his mind, regarding Akun, their current predicament, and perhaps if she was interested in joining him in exacting their revenge.
Kaldarix rose from his bed, his golden draconic crest appearing in his eyes as he encased himself in silence magic. A blue hue emanated from his body, causing his steps and the process of opening his room door to be completely soundless.
He proceeded to walk down the hall and stopped before Mellin's room, noticing her gaze upon him through the door with her dragon eyes, an icy intensity lingering in their depths.
"Kaldarix, what is it?" Mellin asked through a telepathic link. "What's causing you to approach my room so late at night?" she continued, the tone of her thoughts imbued with curiosity and a hint of caution. Kaldarix's display back at the arena, where he had gone slightly out of control, had made her unconsciously raise her guard towards him.
"I just want to talk, Mellin. It's nothing but that, I promise," Kaldarix replied, trying to convey that he came in peace. To just talk? It was obviously more than that, or why the need to mask his presence with such a powerful silence spell enhanced by his draconic crest? Mellin knew something was up with him, but she knew he would never harm her.
Even though she wasn't aware of the full scope of his motives, she knew she could still trust him.
"Come in," she said, her words echoing through his thoughts.
