Chapter 348 Echoes of Forgotten Memories
Chapter 348 Echoes of Forgotten Memories
"What is Lord Kaldarix up to?" Genreia mused as she gazed through the walls with her dragon eyes, her eyes opned slightly to observe the scene from where she lay on her bed.
Things seemed odd to her. Lord Kaldarix was saying something to Lady Mellin that made her grasp her skull in pain, but it didn't look like he was trying to hurt her. In fact, he looked sad as he spoke, almost like he blamed himself for something. Perhaps it was due to what happened on that day.
"I'm not able to hear what they are saying, but by trying to guess what he is trying to say by the way his mouth moves, I think he is talking about Lady Velora and the war with the gods. Maybe they want to change it with the help of Lady Nexus," Genreia mused further. Her assumptions, though somewhat on the right track, were far from the truth.
Genreia narrowed her gaze as she mused further, "But if that was the case, why the need to speak in secret like this? Can't they just talk with Master and have him command Lady Nexus to help them out? What's the need for such a powerful silence spell?"
Genreia's thoughts chimed away. Her assumptions and Lord Kaldarix's and Lady Mellin's behavior were miles apart. She was smart enough to know that, but if her initial thoughts were not their intended motives for having such a secret mission, what were they up to?
Genreia watched as the initial tension between Lord Kaldarix and Lady Mellin melted away. Now, it looked like they were acting familiar with each other, as they usually did, but this interaction had a different air about it. Moments after Kaldarix rose to his feet and Mellin got off her bed, she knelt before him, her head bowed in reverence.
Kaldarix suddenly enlarged and enveloped his right arm in his golden draconic scales, which took on a miniature form of his full-sized dragon form arm. He placed one of his pointy claws on Mellin's forehead, and suddenly, a bright golden glow emanated from that point of contact in Mellin's skull.
"What is Lord Kaldarix doing to her? She doesn't appear to be in pain, but whatever he is doing is letting out a massive surge of mana in the air. Thanks to his skilled mana manipulation technique, none of the mana is leaking out of the room, making it completely undetectable to others." Genreia was filled with more and more questions, her curiosity raging.
...
Mellin smiled, she turned to lock her gaze with his. "My lord, you may not have known this, but I didn't grow up with parents. Even today, I am still not aware of the specifics, but for as long as I could remember, I was always alone, without anyone by my side." Her shoulders relaxed slightly, and she sighed.
Mellin tilted her head down as she gazed at her hands and spoke further, "I've always wondered what it felt like to have a mother or father. And for the past nearly three years now that I spent without my memories, I have experienced just that. Father taught me a lot of things.
The times I spent with him, those moments when he corrected us and had fun with us, are treasures that I don't want to throw away."
She glanced up at Kaldarix briefly before looking back down. "Although I've never been able to show outward gratitude due to my reserved nature, I've always seen him as my father. Regaining my memories hasn't changed that; in fact, I have even more respect for him now."
Kaldarix felt somewhat conflicted after hearing those words. It wasn't that he now hated or disliked Akun for any reason. His situation wasn't like Mellin's; he grew up with a father he looked up to and idolized.
Although Akun had been able to achieve feats that his father didn't come close to accomplishing when he was alive, Kaldarix didn't feel that way towards him... or at least he didn't feel that way right now. He had respect for him, yes, but not to the point that it would make him question whether or not to take his revenge. His brow furrowed, and he began pacing the room, his hands clenched into fists.
Kaldarix stopped pacing, clenched his fists tighter, and felt his frustration rising. He turned to Mellin and asked, "Does that mean you have no interest in revenge?" His voice was tense as he tried to confirm if Mellin was still on his side.
Mellin narrowed her gaze, her posture straightening as she spoke with calm intensity. "My lord, I don't plan on giving up on our revenge, not even close." She took a step closer to him, her eyes locking onto his.
"The anger in me is just as intense as yours, but I want to make what happened to us clear to Father, so he wouldn't question or stop us when we intend to make our move." She folded her arms across her chest, her expression resolute.
