Chapter 123: The Foolish Lich (2)
Chapter 123: The Foolish Lich (2)
Why was the Foolish Lich named so in [Bright]?
There was no question that Agva Amaris was a genius. He rose through the ranks in Hyades most prestigious magician household, mastering complex, arcane arts and pioneering a new path of magical engineering. Even after abandoning his humanity to become an undead Lich, his power and knowledge were still on the incline, which caught the eye of the Demon Cult.
The fact that the Prophet and Ravenna trusted the Foolish Lich enough to handle their Magatama research proved that Agva wasn’t stupid.
But Agva had one critical weakness...
He was subservient to his desires.
Even though he turned himself into the Lich, Agva couldn’t relinquish his innate human desires. On the contrary, his desires amplified itself. He hungered for more food, lusted for more women and allowed himself to fall into further debauchery.
Because of all those factors, Agva gradually lost his sense of reality, hyper-fixating on making his life as indulgent as possible.
And it showed...
"Malvour, you worthless ingrate! I gave you one job!"
"... my apologies."
"I let you use my babies, and this is how you repay me?! You’re going into the scrap machine after we’re done here!"
Completely losing his cool, Agva roared at his most powerful creation and berated it like a worthless subordinate. No, in his mind, Malvour was nothing more than a Flesh Golem made from spare parts of his victims. It only grew stronger because Agva was experimenting with injecting Demonic energy into lifeless organisms, allowing it to ascend into a higher dimension of power.
But ultimately, Malvour was just another disposable Flesh Golem for Agva.
"I’ll deal with you later! Tsk, I really can’t catch a break!"
Agva spat while glancing over at the group that dared to invade his lair and destroy his prized masterpieces. And since Horus, Amon, and Yue were the ones in front, the Lich naturally recognised them first.
"Solaris Knights... And a Summoner? Elune, huh?"
Despite his gradual descent into madness, Agva’s memory remained impeccable. Moreover, the Solaris and Elune Houses had been renowned even when Agva was still human. Their distinctive physical traits and alluring mana left a lasting impression on the former Amaris magician.
"Not just that... I sense Holy power... Is there a priest, no, a bishop here?"
As an undead, Agva was acutely sensitive to the chilling effects of Holy power. The complete purification of his chamber—once brimming with necrotic energy—left no doubt in the Lich’s mind: a heaven-blessed cleric was nearby.
At that moment, the Foolish Lich’s perfect porcelain face showed signs of worry. Now he understood why his entire undead army, half of his Slaughter Dolls and Malvour, had struggled so much. The intruders were anything but weak. Instead, they were far more equipped to take him down than any other threat he’d faced before.
"Damned creature! Surrender now, or face annihilation!"
Horus stepped forward and pointed his blade at the Foolish Lich. Horus gave the foul undead one final act of mercy as a Knight of honour. If the Lich surrendered and cooperated with them by divulging details of the Demon Cult, he would imprison the Lich within the depths of the Solaris Prisons. But if it refused...
Horus would use everything in his power to annihilate the creature.
Alas, there was no way the Foolish Lich would take that offer.
"Solaris Knights are as pretentious as always, regardless of generation." Agva scoffed, clearly not impressed by Horus’s threats.
"No matter how powerful you may be, did you think you could invade a Lich’s lair and leave unscathed? It would be different if you were in Solfea, but you’re nothing more than a baby swordsman in my territory."
Inwardly, to escape and survive, Agva decided to corrupt and bring one of his foes to his side.
Agva stared at Johann with a welcoming smile: "To think I would even see my descendant here."
"Don’t call me that. I have no relation to a traitor that sold out humanity."
"How cold... And here I’d thought of giving you a once-in-a-lifetime offer."
Agva couldn’t help but admire the youthful energy of his relative, who was many times younger than him. There was a time when Agva exuberated such youth, and it was something he strove to get back.
"Boy, what’s your name?"
"Doesn’t matter, I’m here to exorcise you and wipe the stain on the Amaris name!"
"The Amaris name... Haha, how nostalgic... And funny."
"There’s nothing to laugh about, you beast!"
"Boy, your Starlight Stream possesses potential. It has all the hallmarks of an Amaris Archwizard, and if your circles didn’t limit you, you could have obliterated me in one shot. But alas, you are restricted by the confines of your human body."
Agva shook his head in disappointment.
"Join me! Shed your human shell, and I’ll help you get a body like mine! I will show you the path to an Archwizard, and you’ll become more powerful than any Amaris magician before you! We can pursue the arcane arts together with an unlimited lifespan! Enjoy the spoils of our efforts and live like kings!"
"How stupid... To think that a mighty Lich would stoop this low as to beg a junior to join him."
"Beg? You sure have a big head for someone so young."
Agva took offence to Johann’s choice of words.
"Sure, I am interested in your allegiance, but don’t get it twisted..." Stay tuned with novelhall.Côm
Agva lifted both arms, drawing mana from the depths of his soul. Tiny, luminescent beads, brimming with immense mana, spilt from the Lich’s sleeves and began to orbit him in an otherworldly dance. They were all glowing with different colours, hinting at their varied origins.
The mana within the beads resonated with the atmosphere, creating an oppressive weight that pressed down on everyone in the chamber. Even Horus’s expression hardened as he realised the sheer number of beads, each holding enough mana to overwhelm even the average Solaris Knight.
"That bastard! How many have he killed to accumulate this much mana?!"
Possessing affinities for more than one mana type was possible but exceedingly rare. Amon and Leon were prime examples. However, to have an affinity with every mana type? That was simply heaven-defying.
And that was what Agva did. He not only tortured and killed his victims, he absorbed their mana affinities into his undead, immortal body. In many ways, he was just as dangerous as the Blood Demon, if not more so.
And so...
Sling!
Amon’s blade struck first before the Foolish Lich could launch an attack. Moving at a speed that no one could follow, he swung Nyx and decapitated the Lich’s head off its body, ending its terror before it could do anything.
At that sight, everyone in the chamber froze. The tension they’d built up vanished instantly as Amon defeated the Foolish Lich before they could do anything. As for the person in question, he was wiping his black blade with a nonchalant expression as if nothing had ever happened.
