The Extra Can't be A Hero

Chapter 124: The Foolish Lich (3)

Chapter 124: The Foolish Lich (3)

"..."

The defeat of the Foolish Lich stunned everyone and made them silent. Firstly, they couldn’t see what Amon did, given that he moved faster than their eyes could react. Even Horus, who was meant to be the strongest of the bunch, was hard-pressed to trace Amon’s movements.

Secondly, the Foolish Lich had erected multiple layers of protection that would have blocked a sudden attack. Yet, Amon pierced through those defences like a hot knife through butter and ended the undead creature before it could move.

They stood dumbfounded, like frozen statues, while Amon stepped away from the unmoving body of the Foolish Lich and stared into the eerie cavern. His golden eyes were glistening with energy as his mind zoned into sensing the Apostles who were hidden within.

’The Twin Brutes... Why are they not coming?’

Amon’s thoughts shifted from the Foolish Lich to the Apostles. To him, the Lich was nothing more than a peculiar nuisance he could vanquish at any moment. The real danger lay with the Apostles—unpredictable and, arguably, far more powerful foes—whom he was sure were present within the chambers.

’Did they not sense us or the commotion we’d made? That’s impossible.’

Amon was thinking back on what he knew about the Twin Brutes. While they were considered the weakest of all the Apostles, they weren’t weak by any means. They could easily match a Vice-Commander of a Solars Knight Order, and with their peculiar talents, they may even threaten someone like Carmen.

So it was strange for opponents of that calibre to completely ignore Amon and the rest’s commotion when they invaded the cave.

’The Foolish Lich must have done something to hinder their senses.’

Just as Amon was about to turn to look at the defeated state of Agva, a sinister, dark fog enveloped the corpse and gradually brought the Lich’s head back onto its neck. Never one to give an inch, Amon immediately leapt into action and swung Nyx to put the Foolish Lich down for good. But unfortunately, this time, the former Archwizard was prepared.

Malvour leapt in front of its master and took the full brunt of Amon’s blade. The black sword sunk deep into the Flesh Golem’s body as Amon’s solar mana began burning Malvour from the inside. It roared with the howls of the resentful departed, igniting with green embers that temporarily dazed Amon’s mind.

’Annoying...’

Though Malvour’s green fire could disrupt the soul, Amon possessed an exceptional resistance to all forms of impairment. He didn’t even need to exert effort with mana akin to that of a Dragon Sovereign. Gripping Nyx firmly, he slashed through the Flesh Golem’s body, sending it hurtling in the opposite direction.

Malvour was a foe equivalent to that of a Pillar Knight, but it wasn’t a match for Amon’s ruthless nature. Split into two, the massive golem struggled to recover its body and crawled desperately on the floor. It seemed like a horrid mess, but the job was done. Malvour had bought enough time for its master to reconstruct himself.

"You... what are you?"

Fully recovered, Agva stared right at Amon with a poisonous gaze. If looks could kill, Agva’s eyes would have slaughtered Amon a thousand times by now.

It went against his wildest expectations. Agva believed that Horus or the Saintess would be his biggest challenge when he first laid eyes on the intruders. But never in his wildest calculations could he have guessed that this unsuspected black-haired youth would be the one to take down his defences.

"..."

It was the fundamentals of magic that every apprentice mage... heck, any person with a basic understanding of magic would know.

Theoretically, if one could dismantle the construct before the spell was cast, it would be the ultimate anti-magic ability known to mankind. However, while plausible in concept, executing it in practice was nearly impossible.

The sheer amount of mana alone would be astronomical, and reverse-calculating the construct to destroy the magic circle in the split second before it was cast... was borderline on the divine, so not even Archwizards would bother attempting it.

Yet... Yue had just proved herself able to perform such a high-level technique.

And it was to dismantle a high-level barrier spell cast by a former Archwizard.

In reality, Yue could only calculate the dismantling spell with the aid of the Mysterious Grimoire, which bolstered her control over spacetime. But Johann had no way of knowing that. All he saw was a magician he had once considered his peer and rival accomplishing a feat he believed impossible.

Johann’s hope of catching up to the towering figure known as Yue Elune vanished at this moment.

Agva didn’t have the luxury that Johann had, as the black blade Nyx sliced through his body once more, this time with the wrath of Amon’s Dragon-bolstered mana. Without a protective layer, the Foolish Lich’s body was cut in half as the golden flames engulfed its entire body. Flames of the Solaris House burned the brightest, and Agva had turned into a fireball that resonated with the Sun.

Melting onto the floor, the Foolish Lich’s body was burnt entirely into nothing but cinders, leaving the rest of the room dumbfounded once more.

Had Amon killed the final boss twice?

The answer was a resounding yes. And both times, it wasn’t even close. Amon unleashed a fraction of what he was capable of, and it was enough to execute the Foolish Lich, a foe that was once an Archwizard and a valuable asset of the Demon Cult.

And of the spectators present, the only one completely unfazed was his beloved future bride, Yue.

Even Leon, who knew of the strength that Amon was hiding, couldn’t help but gap in awe. As for the rest, there was no need to say anything. Horus was most shocked, particularly after watching Amon condense Five Suns.

How many Solaris Knights had condensed Five Suns? And how many of them had done so under the age of twenty?

Probably none.

Even the Solaris Founder and saint, two of the most remarkable individuals in history, probably couldn’t accomplish such a feat. Yet Amon had done so almost perfectly.

Horus felt that he was witnessing the birth of a new legend that may even surpass this generation’s hero. And with that thought, he glanced back at Leon, who was watching the entire scene unfold with burning eyes. Horus felt a tinge of sorrow for the young lad at that moment.

’It’s troubling to be born in the same generation as such a terrifying genius.’

There were countless stars in the night sky, but none could shine brighter than the Moon. Even if Leon were the brightest star of his generation, he would still play second fiddle to the Knight named Amon Solaris.
