Chapter 125: The Foolish Lich (4)
Chapter 125: The Foolish Lich (4)
Even though Amon had landed a decisive strike and reduced the Foolish Lich to nothing but embers, he didn’t feel fulfilled. The reason for his nonchalance was quite simple... the necrotic energy of the cave wasn’t dissipating, which could mean only one thing.
"He’s still alive."
Amon spat, clearly annoyed by the tenacity of the Foolish Lich. Even in [Bright], the real strength of the Foolish Lich wasn’t his magic power or ability to command a large undead army. But instead, his ability to constantly revive. For a Lich, as long as his Spirit Vessel was intact, it could never experience a ’true’ death. All that Amon’s actions would do was destroy its physical state while leaving its astral one alive and well.
And sure enough...
"YOU BASTARD!!!"
Dying twice had shattered the last remnants of Agva’s fragile psyche. His already unstable mind teetered on the edge of uncontrollable rage. Drawing upon the remaining bones scattered throughout the chamber, the Foolish Lich reconstructed itself into a grotesque amalgamation, starkly contrasting its former, porcelain-like elegance. Necrotic energy surged from his form in a violent eruption, flooding the chamber with a suffocating aura that would have crippled anyone unfortunate enough to stand in its wake.

Fortunately, the Hero and Saintess of this generation were present.
Without hesitation, Leon wielded Ascalon, the Holy Blade, to its fullest potential, conjuring a radiant healing zone that countered Agva’s necrotic influence. Simultaneously, Ellahan reinforced their defence by summoning eight stone pillars infused with holy magic, nullifying the harmful effects of the Foolish Lich’s corrupting energy.
Despite having never trained with each other, the synergy the two had was outstanding, and a wry smile crept up Amon’s lips. The whole point of bringing them into the Lich’s lair was for them to gain experience, and from the looks of it, Leon was growing at an exponential rate.
Alas, Amon couldn’t enjoy the fruits of his labour for long. Agva, who had now reformed himself into a pile of bones, gathered necrotic energy and bypassed every restriction he had placed on himself. Becoming an amalgamation of bones was one thing, but the absolute corrosive, undead mana he channelled was enough to make even the tightest stomachs turn.
"You’re finally showing your true self," Amon snorted in disgust.
"It’s quite fitting. You’re nothing more than a dirty, ugly monster."
"HOW DARE YOU!!!"
Agva lost all control over his senses and howled with rage. He had spent most of his advanced life attempting to regain his humanity, creating a perfect body that emulated that of the most beautiful human, regaining his lost senses, and enjoying life as a human would.
But that was all stripped away today.
A single swing of Amon’s blade destroyed the body he’d spent decades cultivating. To create another body similar to that, he would need to spend his entire fortune and sell his soul further to the Demon Cult, something he wished to avoid at all costs.
In the end, all of his life’s work had been destroyed, and it was the fault of the black-haired youth before him.
"I WON’T FORGIVE YOU!!!"
The Foolish Lich unleashed hell and used everything to summon a new undead army. To be specific, he resurrected the skeletons, zombies, wraiths, and Flesh Golems that Amon destroyed. Even Malvour, the Flesh Golem that had been ruthlessly hacked, was now in pristine condition. The sudden reawakening of the undead army sent the group into a frenzy as they prepared for the worst.
But Amon was utterly calm. The smile on his face grew slightly bigger as he accomplished his goal.
[As expected, he’s easily triggered. The collapse of his mental state has been confirmed. Yue, are you able to locate his Spirit Vessel?]
[Yes, it’s located underneath the mountain. I’ve sent Yaru to get it.]
[How reliable.]
Amon acknowledged Yue’s speed and decisiveness. He was never one to waste time taunting his opponents, preferring a swift and efficient kill. However, in this case, pushing Agva’s fragile mind to the brink was the key to victory. Once the Lich’s focus shattered, Yue would have a far easier time pinpointing the location of his Spirit Vessel. Capturing it would mean the end of Agva’s so-called immortality.
And now, two of the highest executives of that dastardly organisation stood before him.
Dante and Damien... The Twin Brutes of the Gospel of Vengeance.
[Yue... I’m going in. Support me.]
[Hah... What would you do without me?]
Even without Amon’s warning, Yue had already prepared her mana to do just that. Ceres, the Cloud Qilin, yelped as it stamped its feet around, charging new spells that would even the playing field. Horus attempted to stop Amon but was met with Yue’s calm voice.
"Sir Horus, please lead the rest out of the cave before it becomes a bloodbath."
"Elune, you can’t be serious!"
"Oh, we are," Yue stepped forward with eyes of resilience. She placed her arms in front of her chest and declared: "There’s no one more experienced than us regarding the Demon Cult. Trust in my husband and me."
"You..."
Horus was moved. Yue’s love for Amon was practically at the level of blind faith. There weren’t many wives, let alone fiancées, who were that committed to their significant others.
’You’ve landed a good one, Amon.’
Though touched, Horus wouldn’t leave two eighteen-year-olds to deal with the Demonic threat. Biting his lip, he replied:
"No, we won’t escape. I will lead the rest so we won’t get in your way. Prove to me that you’re the promised children of this generation."
"..."
Yue cursed inwardly. Truthfully, she wished for the rest to leave so that Amon and herself could use the full extent of their abilities. After all, the Twin Brutes were tricky opponents, even if both of them used everything they had. Alas, there was nothing she could do if Horus were that stubborn.
At worst, they would have to reveal everything they had to the Pillar Knight in exchange for the defeat of two Apostles.
"Okay, then. Leon, Ella... Your control over holy power will be pivotal in this fight. Whenever you see an opening, do not hesitate to attack."
"Understood!"
Leon and Ella answered in unison, their eyes zoning in on the prize. It wasn’t just them; Lydia, Johann, and Vekka were all at attention, giving a hundred and ten per cent to the battlefield.
But unfortunately for them... they weren’t needed at this juncture.
Amon stared at the two Apostles, raising their eyebrows at the young Knight. They were confused about the whole situation. Not knowing who Amon and the rest were, why they had invaded Lich’s lair, and what they were supposed to do now.
In contrast, Amon knew precisely what needed to be done. Aiming Nyx at the Twin Brutes, he channeled every ounce of his solar mana—infused by the Golden Dragon Progenitor—and unleashed all Six Suns. Golden flames spiralled violently, distorting reality itself under his command. Sensing the shift, Dante and Damien braced themselves, weapons ready—but it was all in vain.
A resonant hymn had been played. Amon’s mind was clear as his golden eyes reflected the ecstasy he was enjoying within. Free from his restraints, the transmigrator stepped forth and thought:
’The end of the Demon Cult begins here...’
"Dawn."
